Commuters are being urged not to leave parking to chance during expected Tube strike disruption in May, as workers rethink their “Plan B commute” into London.

YourParkingSpace says the disruption could leave many drivers reconsidering the final leg of their journey, particularly those who normally rely on the Tube to travel from major London rail termini, outer-London interchanges, park-and-ride-style routes, Elizabeth line connections, Overground stations and other commuter hubs.

Transport for London (TfL) has warned that strikes are planned by some Tube drivers from Tuesday 19 May to Wednesday 20 May, and again from Thursday 21 May to Friday 22 May. The strikes are due to run from 12:00 midday to 12:00 midday the following day, with disruption expected to continue into the afternoons and evenings of strike days. TfL is advising passengers to plan ahead, check before they travel and use alternative routes.

While the exact impact may vary across the network, commuters who usually rely on Tube services for the final leg of their journey are being urged to check before travelling and plan alternative routes.

“When the usual route is disrupted, the whole commute can change for workers. Some people may drive further than usual, switch stations, park near a different rail, Tube or Overground connection, or reserve a space closer to their office or final destination.

“That is why the Plan B commute needs to be planned before the day itself. Drivers should check their route, understand their parking options and reserve ahead where possible, rather than leaving it to chance once the disruption has already started.”

YourParkingSpace says strike disruption can create extra pressure around busy stations, town centres and commuter routes, as workers shift away from their usual travel habits.

The company says drivers should think carefully before attempting to drive into London without a clear parking plan, particularly on days when public transport disruption may increase pressure on roads and alternative routes.

Larne added: “During strike chaos, what matters is certainty before you set off on your commute. Nobody wants to start the day circling for a space, worrying about missing a meeting or ending up further away than planned.

“People are used to checking train times and travel updates before they leave. Parking should be sorted before you set off too.

“Workers should compare their options, reserve a space, and give themselves one less thing to think about on a disrupted commute.”
