Wed 5th May is set to be a day of serious fun at Church of Ascension C of E Primary School, Dudley, when pupils will pit their wits against over one million peers in 17,000 schools across 200 countries in the World Maths Day Global Maths Challenge. The goal is simple, get as many questions correct in 20 one-minute live maths contests, and be crowned the winning mathlete while also participating in fun activities that highlight the wonder of numbers.

Rachael Barrows, Key Stage 1 Maths Coordinator, Church of Ascension C of E Primary School, said, “Over the course of the day children will have access to iPads and will be encouraged to do the best they can and to secure as many points as possible. They are really excited and cant wait to get going!”

World Maths Day is an international celebration of mathematics hosted by 3P Learning, creators of online mathematics program Mathletics.   Graham Frickers, UK Coordinator for the event, 3P Learning, said:  “World Maths Day is about celebrating maths, having fun, and about being connected on a global scale. World Maths Day is one day where we have equity in education, a chance for everyone to get on board regardless of their maths ability, their financial position or social standing.  We encourage all pupils to ‘have a go’, unite with pupils around the world and practise those skills in a fun learning environment.”

World Maths Day has grown exponentially since its beginning in 2007.  It holds the world record for the most participants in an online mathematics competition.
