Leading developer David Wilson Homes recently extended a helping hand to The Let’s Play Project in Banbury with a donation of £250 towards its Easter activities.
The Oxfordshire housebuilder is dedicated to making valuable contributions to the communities in which it builds, and this donation to the Banbury-based charity is in support of an organisation that is at the very heart of the community.
The Let’s Play Project is a charity that provides a safe place for young people with additional needs, between the ages of five and 25, to go after school and during holidays to engage in social play and leisure activities.
The charity caters to a range of disabilities and additional needs, including down syndrome, wheelchair users and those on the autism spectrum.
Joe Rumford, Fundraising and Social Media Assistant at The Let’s Play Project, said: “Our ‘Young People’ come to us after school in the week and during the holidays to our home in Twyford. We have a soft play area, video games, a kitchen for them to do baking in, sports, arts and crafts, and a sensory area.
“We also take our Young People on trips to parks, the cinema, restaurants, mini golf, swimming, the beach and shopping, and are always accompanied by highly trained playworkers to ensure they are staying safe and having fun.
“The work we provide is vitally important to both the Young People and their families. By providing a safe environment, they have the freedom to be themselves, interact with their friends and socialise, which are all things that may not be accessible to them in mainstream settings.”
This is not only a vital service for the attendees of The Let’s Play Project, but it also offers valuable respite time for parents and carers, which allows them time to run errands, work, relax and spend time with other family members and friends.
Joe continued: “Donating to local charities is massively important. Donating a to a national charity is still significant, but making the same donation to a smaller, local charity such as ourselves has a huge impact with the money going directly to our Young People.
“Local charities and organisations are very important to the people and community they serve. We are actively trying to fundraise, recruit fundraising volunteers and create corporate partnerships and welcome any who wishes to lend a helping hand.”
Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are always looking to support organisations and charities in the areas in which we build and we are very happy to support The Let’s Play Project in this endeavour.
“The charity offers a tremendous amount of support to a very vulnerable section of the wider Oxfordshire community and its staff are doing phenomenal work.
“We are incredibly proud to support such a vital charity close to our communities and look forward to supporting more worthy causes in the future.”
