A Birmingham private investigation company is warning Midlands business owners and people in general to be vigilant following an upsurge in the number of cases it is dealing with.

David Jones from St. Pauls Square-based Reveal PI said that there has been a 60 per cent increase in crypto-currency scams.

He comments: “We’re working with people who have trusted and invested their money through websites or with people who have demonstrated some expertise in managing funds, only to fall foul later on and realise that they have been scammed and have lost considerable sums of money.”

He goes on to say that it’s not only crypto currency either where there have been spikes of activity.

Dog theft is still rife and the online purchasing of dogs through un-reputable sites and by puppy farmers has escalated during the pandemic. “We know of clients who have handed over deposits yet have never seen their puppy and have then been unable to contact the so-called breeder again.

“It shouldn’t happen, yet we are still witnessing people falling in love with a dog online only to be scammed later on. There needs to be more education about the purchasing of puppies and we would always advise clients to go via the Kennel Club which we know is safe.”

The pandemic has seen work patterns change completely and the corporate sector has called on Reveal PI for help following a number of cases where employees have been moonlighting or not fulfilling their duties. Dave concludes: “The pandemic has certainly seen the working day turn upside down and without physically being in contact with employees, a lot of trust has had to be placed on employees.

“But sadly for some employers who we have been working with, their employees have been disregarding their jobs only to pursue other activities during their working day, which we have witnessed through surveillance.”
