A Stratford upon Avon based care home has taken inspiration from the Commonwealth Games and set up their own version.
MHA Cedar Lodge decided to set up a “Cedar Lodge Games” which consists of bowling, basketball and, following the Lionesses success in the Euros, a penalty shootout.
The home provides residential, nursing and residential dementia care for 47 residents and even had a baton relay to mark the opening of the games.
The Cedar Lodge Games has proven to be very successful so far, with residents participating and eagerly awaiting the next events.
Anne Hemming, activity coordinator said: “With the Commonwealth Games taking place very close to us, the residents have been following them very keenly.
“Prior to this we did something similar when the Olympics were happening and the residents really enjoyed it.
“Our baton has a message inside from one of our residents and with Chariots of Fire playing, the baton was passed around.
“Residents joined in with clapping, cheering and taking it in turns to go round the room waving the baton aloft.
“We do have some residents who are from Birmingham and they have been watching the Commonwealth Games with a lot of interest.
“For me it is just making sure the residents are enjoying the activities we organise for them and so far it’s working really well.
“I will be giving out medals to everyone once we conclude along with medals for winners of the events.”
