A quantity surveyor left paralysed after falling in his bedroom is the latest beneficiary to receive help from national charity Band of Builders. Robert Lamb, 58, suffered a severe spinal cord injury when he fainted due to low blood pressure at home in October. The father of four from Solihull underwent surgery but has been left paralysed from the chest down. With Robert unable to walk, the house where he and his sons live will need to be adapted to ensure it is safe, accessible and comfortable for him in his new situation. The work will be undertaken by volunteer tradespeople from across the country using tools and materials donated by the construction sector.

Tools company DEWALT has recently announced a partnership with Band of Builders, and will be supporting Rob’s Project, and many more, over the next year.

As part of the collaboration, DEWALT will supply tools and equipment for volunteers to use during construction or renovation projects, and the company will also engage in a programme of activities throughout the year to raise vital funds and drive awareness of the charity’s essential work.

Band of Builders is a registered charity that aids members of the construction industry when times get tough through hands-on support, as well as providing help and advice through its extensive online community. The organisation was founded by tradesman Addam Smith in 2016 to assist his friend and fellow builder, Keith Ellick, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Addam recruited volunteers from around the country to ensure that the home renovations Keith had originally commenced were completed for his family. Since then, the charity has undertaken numerous projects throughout England, Scotland and Wales to support trade professionals facing adversity or hardship.
