Hollywood Monster, a print and signage provider based in Birmingham, has pledged to sponsor the Worcester Buoys, who will be participating in the “World’s Toughest Row” transatlantic rowing race in December this year.

This epic adventure aims to raise funds in memory of their friend, Jack Dyer, for Acorns Children’s Hospice, an organisation that provided unwavering care and support to Jack and his family throughout his life.

The Atlantic Challenge will see Matt and George, the Worcester Buoys, rowing an astonishing 3,000 miles in roughly 40 days. Far from the Midlands, their journey will commence in La Gomera, in the Canaries, and culminate in Antigua in the Caribbean.

Ahead of the challenge, Matt and George released some interesting fact about the race;

  • They will need to row 1.5 million strokes to cross the ocean
  • They will experience waves up to 20ft tall
  • They will need to consume over 5000 calories a day
  • They will need to drink over 10 litres every day – provided by a desalinator machine on the boat
  • After the 2020 race saw 4 marlin attacks, Kevlar protection is now a requirement for boats making the crossing.

Commenting on the upcoming challenge, Matt said, “Rowing in shifts of 2 hours on, 2 hours off over the course of a month and half, we hope to make land in Antigua in record time – weather dependent! Along the way, we’re excited to make a valuable contribution to, and raise awareness for, Acorns Children’s Hospice.”

George continued, “We’d like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hollywood Monster for their invaluable support and everyone who has pledged to support our cause. We look forward to having as many individuals and organisations join us in this incredible journey.”

Simon McKenzie, CEO at Hollywood Monster, said “Hollywood Monster is proud to stand alongside the Worcester Buoys as they take on this extraordinary challenge to support Acorns Children’s Hospice. Their commitment to this noble cause exemplifies the power of community and the dedication to making a difference in the lives of children and families in need.”
