Leading homebuilder David Wilson Homes Mercia participated in a friendly match against Southam Sporting Football Club.
The friendly was set up following the homebuilder’s sponsorship of the football club last year for its inaugural season. The match featured the current playing squad of Southam Sporting FC and the site and office staff from David Wilson Homes.
Due to the success and reception of the friendly amongst the players and staff, it could potentially turn into an annual event. With a final score of 6-1 to Southam Sporting FC, the David Wilson Homes team would certainly be eager for revenge in another fixture.
Danny Gair, Club Secretary at Southam Sporting FC, said: “It was a fantastic event enjoyed by both teams. The David Wilson Homes team were a great bunch and we would love to welcome them again. David Wilson Homes have been brilliant with us and have helped build a popular community asset, we look forward to continuing to work with them.
“Our club has had a good first season, after a slow start we picked up from December and finished strong. We look to build on this for the new season starting in September. Our pre-season training starts from Thursday 9th June and new players are welcome.”
Southam Sporting FC is comprised of 16 to 35-year-olds and the team is currently participating in the Leamington and District Sunday League. The club can be proud of its debut season as the team finished 6th in the Division 4 table.
Typical training sessions are held on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm at Stockton Football Club. The club will be hoping to build on a solid first season and will be looking to bring more players into the fold.
Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are thrilled that we were able to arrange this friendly match. We are very happy with our team’s performance and delighted to see the progress the Southam Sporting FC players have made in such a short space of time.
“We have no doubt that the club will continue on an upward trajectory and we are very proud to have been the primary sponsor for its inaugural season. Supporting groups and organisations in the communities in which we build is very important and we encourage others to assist these local groups too.”
The club is located close to the Beaumont at Warwick Gates development in Heathcote. The development has a number of two and three bedroom homes available in Warwick. Sitting on the banks of the River Avon, Warwick is a picturesque town full of history and character and is fast becoming a sought-after destination for couples and families.
