Two members of the team at the Bannatyne Health Club Wildmoor in Stratford-on-Avon have completed training which equips them to support members living with ‘Long Covid’.

Fitness advisors and personal trainers Niall Howard and April Kent undertook the COVID-19 Rehabilitation Course through Future Fit Training.

The course had three units:

  • Awareness – introducing COVID-19, its nature, impact, prevalence and treatment.
  • Understanding – focusing on rehabilitation including communication, recognising when it is safe to exercise, monitoring breathlessness, behaviour change, exercise guidance and coping strategies.
  • Application – covering health screening, exercise testing and prescription, fatigue management and the services available to provide additional support if needed.

The Office for National Statistics recently disclosed that at least 1.1 million people were already suffering from Long Covid.  Common symptoms include extreme tiredness, shortness of breath, chest pain, brain fog, insomnia, and dizziness.

Mark Reynolds, general manager at the Bannatyne Health Club Wildmoor, said: “Niall and April now have knowledge and skills that they can share with the team.

“Unfortunately, the effects of Covid are going to be with us for a long time to come and it’s important that we are able to help members who are living with the miserable side effects of the illness.

“Physical and mental wellbeing are at the core of what we do, and I am pleased that we are able to provide that extra help and support some members may need over the coming months.”
