Barratt Homes Manchester is delighted to begin its community outreach in Stoke-on-Trent by sponsoring this year’s Stoke-on-Trent Pride with a donation of £3,000.
Over the years, Stoke-on-Trent Pride has quickly grown into one of the largest annual communal events in the city, offering a safe place to welcome all members of LGBT+ community. Pride is an inclusive event dedicated to celebrating diversity and culture in the area.
Beginning in 2005, Stoke-on-Trent Pride has now been active for 17 years. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, though, this year would be the event’s 16th occurrence in total. Stoke-on-Trent Pride took place on Saturday 18th June with a vast array of activities, a total of 87 stalls and events throughout the day.
The stalls included the likes of the Staffordshire Police LGBT+ Network, the NSPCC, Adoption Matters, and Douglas Macmillan Hospice, whom Barratt Homes had previously supported. With catering from the likes of Bread in Common and SB Ice Creams, face-painting, jewellery stalls and live music throughout the event, was a fantastic occasion for all.
The NHS have also been long-standing supporters of the event, with five stalls and a pop-up sexual health clinic available at the event.
Andrew Budworth, Treasurer and Stalls Director at the Stoke-on-Trent Pride Committee, said: “Now in our 17th year, Stoke-on-Trent Pride has always been a small, family-orientated event that focuses on acknowledging and supporting local organisations and groups.
“In turn, without the generous support of our sponsors, such as Barratt Homes, we would not be able to put the event on. It was a fabulous donation we received that has been an enormous aid in helping us to celebrate Pride and we are so thankful to all of our sponsors and donors.”
Although Pride events are run throughout the United Kingdom from June to September, Stoke-on-Trent Pride falls in the middle of Pride Month (1st – 30th June). It has now been over half a century since the first Pride event took place in the United States and, in that time, the celebration has become a global event.
According to the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association, in 2019, Pride was celebrated in more than 50 countries. As well as celebrating inclusivity in their own communities, Pride events and marches have led to incredibly important changes to laws in many countries.
Neil Goodwin, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We are both proud and honoured to have been one of the major sponsors for this year’s Stoke-on-Trent Pride event.
“We are committed to creating a positive impact on the surrounding areas in which we build, and ensuring we are helping to create a community that is accepting of everyone is of the utmost importance.”
Barratt Homes recently launched its Waterside development in Trentham and the support for Stoke-on-Trent Pride is one of multiple ways in which the housebuilder is supporting the local community.
